Tips to maximise your chances of passing the Hazard Perception Test
One of the clips will contain two hazards, so it’s vital that you keep concentrating all the way to the end of each and every clip. It’s essential that you use all of your powers of deduction and anticipation to predict and spot when a hazard starts to develop. For example, you see a car parked in a bay at the side of the road with its indicator on ready to pull off. Although it should wait until you have passed, the driver may not have seen you or misjudged your distance and proceed to pull out.
As with most things, the more you practise the better you will get at recognising a potential hazard. Be observant and watch out for small movements, changes, road signs, pedestrians—anything that might provide a clue as to what is going to happen next. Make sure that you don’t fix your attention directly ahead of you. You need to scan the screen and pay extra attention to the part of the screen that is most likely to present a hazard. Try to anticipate where a hazard might develop. If it looks as if it is developing, then click with your mouse to indicate that you have noticed it; If the hazard changes, click again.
Cheat Detection in the Hazard Perception Test
If the computer thinks that you are trying to cheat by clicking too often, you will score zero for that particular clip. There is a fine line between clicking enough times to be sure that you score maximum points and clicking so often that the test software considers that you were cheating. To ensure that you’re not accused of cheating follow this simple advice:
- Avoid clicking in a pattern
- Try not to click more than 3 times per hazard
- Avoid clicking two or three times in rapid succession
All our Driving Test Success hazard perception clips contain an anti-cheat system that is as close to the official DSA test as possible, so you can be sure that you’re practising with the very best.
